You are receiving this email because you have either registered on our website to obtain the free MCT manual or otherwise expressed interest in our developments (e.g., by email or letter). Attached please find two new MCT modules addressing stigma and self-esteem. Both modules can be run in addition to the MCT standard modules (especially with modules 1 [Attribution] and 8 [Mood]), or as standalone sessions. The proven structure of 8 modules per cycle (free download at www.uke.de/mct) should be maintained wherever possible. With the two additional modules we want to provide therapists or trainers more flexibility. The new modules were developed because patients often report problems with self-esteem (e.g., because of psychosocial problems such as unemployment and fragile social networks), have difficulties coping with their diagnosis, and are often unsure if and how to communicate their situation to others. Studies show that patients consider the treatment of affective problems and the reduction of social anxiety a high treatment priority. Unfortunately, these areas are rarely dealt with directly during treatment. As an increase in insight is sometimes associated with a reduction of quality of life and self-esteem, these two aspects appear important to address. The two new modules are beta versions. As always, we greatly value your input and encourage you to bring your experiences and recommendations for revision to our attention. Translations of the two new modules will be prepared in the following months.
